News and Knowledge

While there are many resources for young adults heading off to college, only a few are available for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In January, OAR published “Finding Your Way: A College Guide for Students on the Spectrum” to help young adults with ASD navigate the college scene. Students headed to college can also consult College Central, an online space dedicated to providing resources and information about the whole college experience, including campus life, academics, and more.

The Guide

Self-advocates and researchers contributed to “Finding Your Way” to help students with ASD find practical solutions for the obstacles they may run into on a college campus and ease the transition to higher education. The guide addresses:College Guide_Cover

  • Changes in disability supports from high school to college
  • Self-advocacy and disclosure
  • Academic supports and accommodations
  • Establishment and maintenance of daily routines and structure
  • Social relationships and conflict resolution
  • Jobs, internships, and financial aid

In less than a year, more than 12,000 copies of the guide have been delivered into the hands of college students with autism. Yours is waiting. Order a hard copy or download a PDF copy.
