OAR is hosting a free webinar that addresses problem behavior using a successful team approach on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. ET, featuring Jane Barbin, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA. Register now or share information about the live, hour-long event, which will include the presentation followed by a brief Q&A session. Parents, other caregivers, clinicians, therapists, and other professionals, including teachers and administrators, are encouraged to participate.

Webinar Description

Children with and without autism can demonstrate challenging behaviors that parents, school staff, and other caregivers often find difficult to understand or change. In this webinar, Dr. Barbin will provide attendees with an understanding of the reasons these behaviors occur, the functional assessment process and potential intervention strategies (e.g., behavior intervention plans) that can be incorporated into the classroom and extended to the home setting for improvement.

She will also discuss ways to increase positive replacement behaviors and practical application of evidence-based procedures and support the child’s school team in developing an effective plan to pave the way for a successful school year.

About the Presenter

Dr. Barbin is a licensed clinical psychologist, board-certified behavior analyst-doctoral and licensed behavior analyst in Virginia. She founded Behavioral Directions, LLC in 2001 and currently serves as executive director consulting to parents, educators, and public school districts while collaborating across disciplines to promote successful outcomes for those with autism, behavior disorders, and related disabilities.

She trained in behavioral psychology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute. She was one of the founding directors of the Ivymount School Autism Program. She is former president of the Maryland Association for Behavior Analysis and serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts.

Through her work, she advocates for disability awareness and provides training to local and national parent and professional groups. Her interests include teaching executive functioning skills to learners with special needs, factors related to effective school consultation, and quality indicators in autism intervention.
