From in-person gatherings to virtual opportunities, this October offers you fun ways to support OAR and connect with others.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 16, when Port City Brewery in Alexandria, VA, will host a fun-filled Game Night Trivia with OAR. Join us at 7 pm for trivia competitions for teams of up to six, a raffle, and delicious tacos available for purchase from La Tingeria, Port City’s onsite food truck. Proceeds from sales during the event will benefit OAR. Whether you’re a trivia buff or just joining for the fun, facts, and flights, you will have a great time!
Join Sacred I for Awaken on the River, a weekend of sound, ceremony, and soul on October 18 and 19. This immersive riverside retreat on the Ocklawaha River in Weirsdale, FL, will include live reggae music, drum circles, yoga, healing spaces, vendors, river adventures, live art, and more. Designed to foster unity, connection, and celebration, Sacred I promises an unforgettable weekend for all who attend. A portion of event proceeds will benefit OAR. For more information, contact info@sacredi.org.

Dr. Jessica McAleer and her 7-year-old autistic daughter, Ryleigh, are organizing a beautiful virtual project: a poetry collection written entirely by autistic children and youth. Inspired by Ryleigh’s passion for poetry and her desire to connect with peers, this collection will showcase the creativity and unique perspectives of autistic poets nationwide.
Submissions are open through October 31 for autistic youth up to age 16. All communication styles are welcome, including typed, handwritten, transcribed spoken words, or AAC-assisted writing. Children can submit up to three poems and can send a short author bio and photo, if they wish. Accepted poems (one to three per child) may be accompanied by a short author bio and optional photo.
Sales from the published anthology will benefit OAR and the Autism Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN). For questions, contact autisticpoetryproject@gmail.com.
