News and Knowledge

Hire Autism is seeking new volunteer navigators to work with job seekers virtually to review resumes and cover letters. We also have an update on our Jobtimize pilot.

Navigator Training Begins In April

Interested in helping young adults with autism enter the workforce? OAR is seeking seasoned professionals to serve as volunteers who will be matched with job seekers to review their resumes or cover letters and set the stage for a successful employment process. Navigators work with job seekers through virtual sessions and over email to ensure that the documents are polished and ready to send to employers.

The next online training begins April 15 with four hours of virtual training over two weeks. Apply online through March 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Navigators commit to volunteering one to two hours weekly for three months. Additional trainings will be offered in July and October. Prospective navigators must pass a background check and provide personal references.

Use Jobtimize for Free During Pilot

Almost 50 Hire Autism job seekers have signed on to use the free Jobtimize online assessment tool. The career matching technology highlights a job seeker’s unique signature attributes and provides customized job recommendations based upon their behavioral traits, attitudes, interests, education, and experience level. The Jobtimize pilot will continue to run until April 30, so there is still time to complete the assessment for free.

Jobtimize provides job seekers with an autism-friendly assessment experience by:

  • Offering a shorter assessment compared to other pre-hire assessments
  • Giving job seekers the ability to stop and save answers to break up the assessment process if they are feeling overwhelmed or stressed
  • Providing personalized insight into areas of strength and challenges
  • Placing job seekers in front of employers based on their fit for the job, not what is in their resume (for positions through the Jobtimize platform, not third-party job portals)

Job seekers can use their Jobtimize report to aid in career planning or help them better understand the skills and traits that can distinguish them from others when they begin searching for a job. Jobtimize also provides links to jobs in the job seeker’s local area.

To access Jobtimize, individuals must create a profile on Hire Autism’s website. After successfully registering they will receive a welcome email with a link to access Jobtimize. OAR encourages parents, job seekers and autism professionals to share this information with others who may be interested.
