Libby by OverDrive

The Organization for Autism Research offers a curated library of autism-related ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby app, by OverDrive. The library includes popular fiction and non-fiction books, clinical texts, guidebooks, kids’ books, and more for community members to borrow for free from their personal devices for leisure or educational reading.

How to get access:

Download the Libby app and search for ‘Organization for Autism Research’ as the library name or visit on your desktop and select Sign In With My Card.  Once you finish logging in with the same email address associated with your OAR account, you’ll have access to the online collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the Libby app is completely free to install, with no subscription costs, no in-app purchases, and no late fees. 

  • You can borrow up to 3 books and place a hold on up to 5 books at any given time. 
  • The default checkout period is 14 days. You can adjust the checkout period to 7 or 21 days as desired. 
  • Books are automatically returned to the library at the end of the checkout period, so there is no need to worry about returning your loans on time! 
  • You can always return a book early if you finish it before it is due. 
  • If you are nearing the end of the checkout period but wish to have more time to finish your book, you may choose to extend your loan if no one else is waiting for it. 
  • Device compatibility – Enjoy Libby on almost any device by accessing it in a web browser or downloading the Libby app on a phone or tablet. 
  • Multiple device syncing – All your loans, notes, bookmarks, and reading progress sync across your devices. 
  • Listen while you drive – Enjoy audiobooks in your car through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or a Bluetooth connection. 
  • Offline access – Download ebooks and audiobooks for offline reading, or stream them to save space. 
  • Send to Kindle – If you prefer reading on your Kindle, Libby can send your compatible library books to it. (U.S. libraries only)
  • You have the power to fully customize your reading experience. Any settings you adjust will be automatically saved for the next time you open your book. Accessibility features include:

  • We select titles that directly inform the autism community for educational purposes or entertain for leisurely reading. Example categories include children’s books, parent books, autiebiographies, popular fiction, and authoritative clinical guides. 
  • The Libby app contains digital books in ebook and audiobook format only. Limited paperback copies of OAR-published works can be ordered through the OAR’s Resource Store.  
  • Yes! We encourage you to tell us what books you are interested in reading through the Libby app Notify Me feature. 
  • We will consider adding additional books to the collection based on overall demand, relevancy and timing, and availability of program funds. 
  • You will be notified once any requested titles have been added to the library. 

The library includes OAR publications, OAR-funded works, and books written by many other authors not affiliated with OAR. It is curated to fulfill OAR’s educational activities, support autism community initiatives, and/or fulfill individual reader requests.
