News and Knowledge

OAR takes great pleasure in announcing the 38 recipients of the Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarships and Schwallie Family Scholarships for 2016. OAR awarded 20 Schwallie Family Scholarships and 18 Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarships to students attending four-year or two-colleges, vocational/technical schools, or co-operative life skills programs. Together, the two scholarships attracted 430 applicants and provided an award total of $114,000. OAR has now provided scholarships to 229 students with autism diagnoses – a total financial contribution of $698,500 since the program started in 2007.

Both scholarships provide one-time $3,000 awards to students with autism diagnoses. To be eligible for one of the scholarships, an applicant must have a confirmed autism diagnosis (DSM-IV or later), be accepted for full-time enrollment in the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters, and submit three short personal essays along with an application form. This year, recommendation letters were required for the Lisa Higgins Hussman applicants and optional for Schwallie Family applicants.

OAR extends its gratitude once again to the Lisa Higgins Hussman Foundation and the Schwallie Family Foundation. These scholarships would not be possible without the foundations’ generous support.

OAR congratulates the 2016 scholarship recipients:
