As the Marine Corps Marathon’s golden anniversary approaches this October, OAR is excited to have a team of runners taking on the marathon and virtual 10K in support of autism research.
“I’m proud to be running my 6th Marine Corps Marathon in support of OAR—a cause close to my heart. Every mile is for advancing autism research and in honor of those who’ve served. Research matters now more than ever, and I’m grateful to support this incredible organization for the third time,” said RUN FOR AUTISM alum Didier Weizman.
Since 2003, OAR has been a charity partner with the Marine Corps Marathon. As OAR’s hometown race, runners can expect to see OAR staff at the expo, attend a team happy hour on Saturday, October 25, and see OAR cheer squads along the course on race day. In addition, team members receive team gear and can earn fundraising prizes.
The Marine Corps Marathon, one of the biggest races in the United States, is the largest marathon that does not offer prize money. “The People’s Marathon” takes runners around famous Washington, DC and Virginia landmarks, including the Pentagon and National Mall, before finishing at the Iwo Jima Memorial. This year, the Marine Corps 10K is virtual, making it a great option for anyone across the country who wants to support OAR.
For longtime RUN FOR AUTISM runner Christina Pires, the race holds multiple meaningful connections. “I am choosing to run for the RUN FOR AUTISM team for the Marine Corps Marathon in honor of my autistic 15-year-old son, Anthony. Anthony’s father is a Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, respectively. As a former military spouse, I love how OAR supports our military [families], providing assistance to them.”
Join Pires, Weizman, and other RUN FOR AUTISM athletes this fall at the 50th anniversary of the Marine Corps Marathon on October 26, 2025.
