News and Knowledge

On Monday, June 5, the bidding for wine and prizes during the annual Chairman’s Dinner was fast, furious, and nonstop.  By the time the bidding stopped, the auction alone had brought in more than $80,000 and the proceeds for the evening totaled almost $160,000, setting a new high for this event.

The Chairman’s Dinner is an annual fundraising event that has been organized and hosted by OAR Chairman, Jim Sack, since 2001. As has been the case for several years now, The Palm Restaurant in McLean, Va., provided the setting, food, and friendly atmosphere as 120 friends and business colleagues of Sack and OAR enjoyed the festivities. As soon as the guests took their seats, volunteer auctioneer Ken Glassmacher, longtime friend of Sack’s and OAR supporter, went to work auctioning off 17 prizes that included fine wines; a 10-bedroom, luxury beach house in Virginia Beach; 50-yard-line seats for the annual December showdown game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens in Pittsburgh; and more. When he had finished, all previous auction records had fallen.

Reflecting on the success of the dinner the next day, Sack said, “I think the attendance, bidding, and funds raised are full recognition of what we are doing. I am grateful and humbled by my friends’ incredible generosity.”
