News and Knowledge

rfa 5k 3OAR’s inaugural Active for Autism 5K and Kids Dash on April 14 in Alexandria, Va. raised over $15,000 for OAR. The top fundraiser, Sadia Heil, raised $1,000 while former OAR intern Kyleigh McGrail supported OAR through the Virtual 5K and raised over $250.  The money raised will help OAR fund new research, award scholarships to students on the spectrum, and provide free resources to families and educators.

Drizzly weather didn’t stop 220 runners from coming out to take part in this first OAR 5K. In addition to the 220 participants in Alexandria, 15 runners joined us by running a 5K in their hometown, making it a global event with support from Massachusetts, Florida, and Illinois all the way to Kuwait.

Congratulations to all of the finishers! The top male finisher, Mark Walchinsky, finished in an impressive time of 18:17. Not far behind was the top female finisher, Alison Albrecht, with an awesome time of 23:02.  A full list of race results can be found here and race photos are available.

OAR owes a big thank you to the volunteers for helping execute a great community event! We’re already looking forward to the second annual Autism 5K and Kids Dash on Sunday, April 19, 2020.

Many wonderful sponsors joined OAR to make our inaugural event a success. We couldn’t have done it without them.
