Lance Silberstein recently wrapped up a summer internship for OAR, which began on June 5 and wrapped up on August 20.
Most remarkable was the fact that Silberstein worked remotely during the internship. On the one hand, Silberstein says, even done remotely, the internship was worthwhile. “I enjoyed communicating with blog contributors and editing their drafts. Getting to see the process of a blog post go from an idea to a published piece was very rewarding.” On the other, “I would have preferred to work in OAR’s office and meet in person all of the wonderful people I’ve only had the chance to speak with virtually.”
Beyond not worrying about commuting back and forth, Silberstein also identified their favorite project, “writing an article for the College Central section of OAR’s website about assistive technology for students with autism. I also created a flyer to advertise one of OAR’s webinars. I’ve enjoyed getting to see and be involved in a lot of different parts of OAR’s research and programs team. With both the article and the flyer, I found it fulfilling to create something that could be useful to others in the autism community.”Silberstein, a rising senior, will return to Wellesley for their last semester this fall only they will be attending remotely. They are majoring in cognitive and linguistic sciences and hope to work at a disability-focused non-profit in the future.
