About Us

Who We Are

The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) is dedicated to improving the lives of autistic individuals, their families, and supporters by funding practical research and providing valuable resources. Since its founding in 2001, OAR has awarded millions in research grants, supported autistic students through scholarships, and delivered free, evidence-based resources to the autism community.

OAR’s mission is rooted in promoting understanding, acceptance, and meaningful opportunities for autistic people at all stages of life. We focus on work that answers real-world questions, translates findings into usable tools, and helps schools, communities, and families put knowledge into action.

Our Mission

The Organization for Autism Research’s mission is to apply research to the challenges of autism.

We use science to help answer the questions autistic people, families, caregivers, and professionals face in everyday life. That focus guides what we fund and what we build.

Beyond supporting research, we also share clear and useful information widely across the autism community, focusing our work on improving the quality of life for autistic individuals and those who support and care for them.

What is applied research?

Applied research is practical research designed to make day-to-day life better. It examines what helps people thrive in areas such as education, communication, self-care, social connection, employment, behavior, and adult and community living, along with the supports and services that make those outcomes possible.
