RUN FOR AUTISM

2019 marked the 11th year of success for the Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events.  This year, 25,000 runners from 47 states and 23 countries laced up their shoes on Sunday, May 5th topittsburgh participate in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon.

The Organization for Autism Research had an amazing team of 33 RUN FOR AUTISM runners participate in the events held throughout the weekend in downtown Pittsburgh.  This was the tenth year in a row that the RUN FOR AUTISM program was part of the Pittsburgh Run for a Reason Charity Program and raised an amazing $14,838 for autism research.  A big shout out to our top fundraiser on the team, Jennifer Stoops who raised an impressive $1,525!

On Sunday May 5th, overcast skies and drizzling rain didn’t keep the RUN FOR AUTISM team from conquering the hills and bridmedalsges along the tough Pittsburgh course.  Jessica Nelson was OAR’s first marathon finisher with an impressive time of 4:11:31.  For the second year in a row RUN FOR AUTISM alums Dave Eschenbach and Stephanie Sciulli were our top male and female half marathoners with times of 1:45:56 and 1:51:11, respectively.  Team members were a little chilly, but excited to receive their OAR medal after the race and to hang out with family and friends at the RUN FOR AUTISM tent.  Congratulations to the entire team, especially to those who ran PR’s!

Interested in participating in one of our featured fall events?  We have entries into the Marine Corps Marathon and New York City Marathon!  Email the RUN Staff for more information on how to join the team.
