It’s not often that an employee leaves a job and then returns, but that’s exactly what Sean Flynn, OAR’s new manager of endurance fundraising, did.
Flynn will manage all of OAR’s endurance events, which include OAR’s signature RUN FOR AUTISM program, triathlons, and events like Tough Mudder, a team-oriented obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit. His responsibilities cover related fundraising, including sponsor relations, future event planning, and runner support.
During his first stint at OAR, Flynn was a RUN coordinator from 2011 to 2013. He left to return to Florida, where he is from, to teach for a year. After that, he worked as an endurance manager for the Crohn’s and Colitis’s Foundation of America and then worked at IRONMAN as the account executive for charity partnerships.
“With the addition of the Tough Mudder races to our program and IRONMAN next year, we needed someone with experience to maximize these new opportunities and maintain the RUN FOR AUTISM program at its high level,” says Mike Maloney, OAR executive director. “Sean knows OAR already and brings new experience exactly where we need it. He’s about as perfect a fit as we could have hoped for.”
Flynn started the new job on July 5. He came back to OAR, he says, for two reasons: “It was a wonderful work experience my first time working at OAR. Now I have the opportunity to help bring the program to a new level that will help raise awareness and fund important research.” He looks forward to the opportunity to partner with “some of the best endurance events in the country and to offer our runners a wonderful experience while raising important funds to further OAR’s mission.”
