OAR recently welcomed Patrick Haines, a new Hire Autism intern, and welcomed back interns Keygan Miller and Lindsey Siff for fall internships.
Haines began his internship on September 4 and will be working until his semester ends in December. He is in his second year of a master’s program in public administration at American University. He decided on Hire Autism for his internship because he wanted to help make the transition to careers a little easier for people on the spectrum than it was for him. “I want to use the difficulties I faced adjusting to adulthood as motivation and inspiration to help others who are in a similar boat and break the stigmas associated with autism in the workplace.”
He is looking forward to learning to use social media and digital communications to “enact change for others. In a world where digital communications experience is an integral part of the nonprofit workplace, this internship will provide me with experience that I need to claim an edge in a competitive job market.”
Miller, who did an internship in the spring, and Siff, who wrapped up a summer internship in August, are back to work with OAR for their second internships.
Miller, who expects to be at OAR until sometime in December, is in the second year of a master’s program in education policy at George Washington University. Miller is writing, editing, and working on the website of the soon-to-be-released sexuality education resource and on updating Operation Autism.
Siff, a junior at George Washington University, expects to be at OAR through the end of November. Siff is working on outreach for the sexuality education webinar, designing the website for the sexuality education resource, and contributing to OAR’s social media and blog.
