OAR’s newest intern, Lance Silberstein, began work as OAR’s summer intern on June 5 and will work through mid-August. Silberstein is a rising senior at Wellesley College majoring in cognitive and linguistic sciences.

“I have a passion for disability advocacy,” Silberstein says. “At Wellesley, I am a student access advocate with the Accessibility and Disability Resources Department. I work with students with disability accommodations to help them reach their potential with assistive technology and educate fellow students about both assistive technology and about the work that the Accessibility and Disability Resources Department does to support members of the campus community.” That passion brought them to OAR so that they could expand their “knowledge of and experience with disability issues and specifically autism.”

Silberstein hopes to work at a disability-focused non-profit in the future. They believe that their OAR internship will be very valuable in deepening and strengthening their advocacy and outreach skills. “I have learned a lot so far from managing OAR’s social media and blog, and I am excited to continue to learn how OAR shares its programs and resources with the community.”
