Graduate student Yasmin Rafiq is the latest in a long line of talented OAR interns.

Yasmin Rafiq, programs and outreach intern, joined OAR on September 12 for an internship that will last until mid-December. Currently a graduate student at George Mason University, Rafiq is working on a Master of Science in Health and Medical Policy. She chose OAR for her internship because she was “drawn to the organization’s strong focus on supporting families in particular and providing them with resources that they may not necessarily have access to otherwise.”

Rafiq will work on updating OAR’s social media sites, writing articles for the newsletter, and helping to update the blog regularly. In addition, she will spend some of her time writing research snapshots and translating research data into easy-to-read pieces for the research portal.

“Having the opportunity to work on such a variety of projects will enable me to build critical skills through conducting research and then transforming that research into written pieces whether it be in the format of news updates, social media posts or newsletter articles,” she says.

She is looking forward to working in a small nonprofit environment to get a “real sense of how outreach can truly make a difference within a community.”
