OAR invites interested college students and recent graduates to apply for one of two internships: (1) Programs and Outreach or (2)RUN FOR AUTISM. Interns work closely with key staff members on projects of high value to the autism community and OAR, gaining meaningful work experience in a nonprofit organization with a national focus.
The ideal intern is a dynamic individual who is interested in autism and shares OAR’s passion for helping people with autism and their families. OAR is looking for applicants who excel at detail-oriented work, but think strategically and never lose sight of a greater purpose.
Mary Alice Patton, now a graduate student in speech-language pathology at the University of Memphis, reflects on her experience, “I am so grateful I had the chance to intern at OAR. I was able to make meaningful contributions to programming and outreach projects, as well as learn more about the latest research in the field of autism. The most exciting part was witnessing the ways in which research shapes the projects from which individuals with autism benefit directly. Two years later, I still find myself regularly utilizing the knowledge and experiences I gained at OAR.”
Summer interns work full time for a 10-week period between the end of May and the middle of August. OAR offers a modest stipend and potential for class credit is available pending school approval. The OAR office is located within short walking distance of the Court House Metro station (orange line) in Arlington, Va.
