With the presentation of a check for $250,000 to OAR late last month, the Lankler Family Foundation fulfilled $1 million pledge it made two years ago. The first installment included vital funds earmarked for OAR’s Hire Autism adult employment initiative. Thanks to that gift, the Hire Autism website is live, fully operational, and in its demonstration phase in Northern Virginia today.

The gift grew from the friendship between the late Sandy Lankler and OAR Chairman Jim Sack. Lankler became sensitive to the needs of the autism community through his affiliation with Sack, who was both a personal friend and his attorney. That awareness led to the creation of a therapeutic riding center in Dickerson, Md., and the gift that made Hire Autism possible.

The gift from the Lankler Family Foundation stands as the most generous in OAR’s almost 16-year history. OAR’s Board of Directors and Sack would like to again recognize and thank Sara Ashworth, Lee Machette, and the board of directors of the Lankler Family Foundation for this transformational gift.
