News and Knowledge

Just in time for Autism Awareness Month, OAR is pleased to announce that its Hire Autism jobs portal is now open in Northern Virginia, the location selected for the new jobs portal’s first test before being expanded nationwide. Hire Autism has 14 active job openings.hire-autism-logo

Since late last year, OAR’s Hire Autism staff has reached out to Northern Virginia businesses to
engage them in a partnership to expand job opportunities for people with autism in Northern Virginia. Through these efforts, four companies, Wegmans, Linden Resources, Glory Days Grill, and Quality Innovations, Inc. are currently registered, while several other companies in the area have committed to joining soon.

As mentioned elsewhere in this issue, OAR’s goals for National Autism Awareness Month are to add five more employers and sign up at least 50 applicants. OAR is on track to exceed the partnership goal with local businesses, and enrollment has begun for persons with autism seeking employment in the target area.

Hire Autism Applicants

Interested job seekers in the Northern Virginia area are encouraged to sign up. Go to HireAutism.org and select “Create Account” in the top right corner. Follow the instructions for job seekers to create a personal profile. Once you have created an account, you can browse job postings and apply for jobs. The site allows applicants to upload a resume and create a cover letter as well. In some cases, applicants may be directed to the company’s website career page to complete an application for the job they are interested in. Applicants can also find useful employment tips on the resource page. For assistance, please email: help@hireautism.org.

Hire Autism Employers

For Hire Autism, OAR seeks to recruit businesses that already demonstrate a commitment to workplace diversity that includes hiring people with autism, and others that are open to learning more about Hire Autism’s applicants and providing opportunities for qualified candidates. OAR’s goal is to provide a range of employment opportunities for candidates to choose from in a variety of industries including but not limited to food service, retail, entertainment, hospitality, information technology, distribution, and customer service.
