News and Knowledge

Sometime in the past year, someone has run her first 5K and raised money for OAR. A RUN veteran ran his annual marathon for OAR after spending weeks reaching out to family, friends, and colleagues for pledges to support OAR. A TRI FOR AUTISM team member persevered through a triathlon for OAR while another took on a trail race. They are among the 834 RUN FOR AUTISM team members who collectively raised more than $717,000 in 2014, only the second time in the history of the RUN program that a team has exceeded the $700,000 mark.

To each runner who shared their miles with OAR and to everyone who supported a RUN team member with donations or encouragement during the long training periods, thank you! Whether you are a team member, a supporter, or someone thinking about joining the 2015 team, you will be inspired by this video tribute that captures the impact that the 2014 RUN FOR AUTISM team members are making through their fitness and fundraising efforts.

The money raised by the 2014 RUN FOR AUTISM team will help OAR fund:

  • $210,000 in new autism research studies in 2015
  • The publication and distribution of Life Journey through Autism: A Guide to Safety to parents and families
  • The publication and distribution of additional sibling support resources
  • OAR’s soon-to-be-launched  Autism Employment Initiative

“The fundraising efforts of our RUN FOR AUTISM team members help OAR break new ground each year. That’s especially so this year as we head into some of OAR’s most ambitious projects yet,” notes RUN Director Chelsea Steed. “We hope RUN participants continue to wear their OAR shirts proudly and share the news about how much they are helping OAR to do.”
