How do I get started?

Check out our Featured Events page to see the races we currently partner with. Some events are open for registration now, so you can sign up right away. If a race you are interested in isn’t open today, complete the form to be added to the interest list. A RUN FOR AUTISM coordinator will follow up with you before we open registration.

I want to RUN FOR AUTISM, but I can’t participate in any of the Featured Events. Are there other options?

Your participation isn’t limited to just events on our schedule or to running in general. Run, walk, bike, skip or jump in any other type of event and dedicate your efforts to autism research. From a hometown 5K to an international triathlon, the event, date and location is up to you. If you want to run in a race that we are not partnered with, check out our DIY program. For other athletic pursuits, check out our Athletic Events page. If working out isn’t your thing, we also have options for Special Occasions and other Community Fundraisers.

What do I get as a RUN FOR AUTISM participant?

Every OAR runner receives a Runner’s Kit, which includes a t-shirt and the RUN FOR AUTISM, technical race tank, plus training and fundraising support from the OAR staff, and an OAR finisher’s medal. Team perks differ from race to race.

Most importantly, as a RUN FOR AUTISM participant, you will add meaning to your miles running for a cause greater than yourself. You will join a team of 1,000 runners across the country, working together to support autism research. 87% of the funds you raise directly supports research and programs that inform and assist families impacted by autism.

How much money do I have to raise?

It varies by race and how you register (have your entry already or using an OAR charity entry). All of OAR’s Featured Events have fundraising minimum requirements for team members. For specific minimums, please visit the Featured Events page and click on the appropriate event title, or contact the event’s RUN FOR AUTISM team coordinator.

I signed a fundraising agreement, but can no longer participate in the race. What do I do?

Because RUN FOR AUTISM is first and foremost a fundraising activity, we ask all participants to meet their fundraising minimum, regardless of whether or not they can participate in the race. In some instances, you can defer until next year or possibly run a different race. Contact your RUN FOR AUTISM team coordinator right away and we can discuss options with you.

A donor gave me a check/cash. What should I do?

Please make sure all check donations are made out to “Organization for Autism Research” or simply “OAR”. Be sure to include your name and the event you are participating in so we can credit the amount to your fundraising total. You can send checks to:

Organization for Autism Research
2111 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 401
Arlington, VA 22201

Please DO NOT mail cash to the OAR office. Write a check for the cash amount and send it to the address above. Be sure to include the donor’s name and address so that OAR can send them a thank you letter that also serves as a receipt for tax purposes.
