Looking for a different kind of challenge in 2024? Join the TRI FOR AUTISM team for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. You’ll challenge yourself, have a great time, and most importantly, dedicate your miles to OAR’s mission to apply research to the challenges of autism.

Entering its 43rd year, the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon attracts world champions, Olympic medalists, and the best amateur triathletes from 50 states and over 50 countries. They put their endurance and adventurous spirit to the test as they take on San Francisco’s legendary bay, steep hills, and rugged terrain. Consistently ranked as a must-do event among triathletes, this race draws thousands each summer to find out who has what it takes to escape Alcatraz.

The 2024 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will take place on June 9 and showcases the beauty of San Francisco. Triathletes embark on a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shoreline, an 18-mile hilly bike ride out to Golden Gate Park, and an eight-mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous Sand Ladder. This world-renowned triathlon, in which only 2,000 triathletes can participate, sells out within hours of the registration opening each year.
